High Point was built in 1942 as housing for defense workers. Between 2000 and 2010, the Seattle Housing Authority redeveloped it under the federal HOPE VI program. It now has nearly 1,600 homes across 34 city blocks and 120 acres, reconnected to West Seattle by a new street grid, with more than 20 acres of parks, playgrounds and trails, plus a library, clinic and community center.
