The Junction took its name in 1907, when two streetcar lines met at California Avenue SW and SW Alaska Street. Real estate offices opened within weeks, and by the end of that decade the Junction had replaced the Admiral district as West Seattle's commercial center. Eleven historic murals painted on commercial buildings, completed in 1991, depict scenes from its past, and the West Seattle Farmers Market runs Sundays year-round in the heart of the district. Housing stock
The City of Seattle designated the Junction an "urban village" in the 1990s to concentrate growth, so it has more apartments and mixed-use buildings than surrounding residential streets. The rest by bedrooms: studio: 10, 1 bed: 35, 2 bed: 35, 3 bed: 12, 4 bed: 6.
